Respiratory Diseases
The respiratory system is comprised of the lungs, airways and the respiratory muscles that allow the movement of air in and out of the body. The primary function of the respiratory system is to supply your body's blood with oxygen. There are many conditions and diseases that can affect the respiratory system. Things like asthma and emphysema are considered obstructive conditions, while restrictive conditions are things like fibrosis, pleural effucsion and alveolar damage. Vascular diseases of the respiratory system include pulmonary embolism and pulmonary edema. Finally, infectious and environmental respiratory conditions relate to some pollutants, tuberculosis and pneumonia. While it is unpleasant, coughing is actually good your respiratory system as it's the main way to remove saliva, mucus, dust and other irritants from the lungs. A healthy respiratory system needs exercise, so physical activity will improve your air intake. You will also damage your respiratory health if you smoke, or are constantly breathing in airborne toxins at your home or workplace.
