Mental Health Is Important

Taking care of your mental health is just as important as you physical health. Millions of people are plagued by depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues. To live the happiest, healthiest life possible, it is pertinent to take care of your mind and your emotions. If you are feeling depressed or not like yourself, talk to your doctor as soon as possible, to get yourself back on the path to happiness.

Children's Mental Health

Mental health is significant at every stage of life. Children not only need to grow up physically healthy, but mentally healthy as well. A child with a mental health problem can be harder to identify than a physical illness. Pay attention to their behavior and look for signs such as excessive anger, fear, or anxiety.

Antidepressants

If you suffer from more serious depression and/or anxiety, you may need to talk to your doctor about taking antidepressants. The newest antidepressants family blocks neurotransmitter reuptake but only to the serotonin system. Neurotransmitters are reduced in amount in people with depression. This can cause blood pressure to drop and lead to dizzy spells. These medications have the common annoying side effects of many medicines such as dry mouth, constipation, nausea, and diarrhea. The side effects of SSRI antidepressants tend to be temporary and cause very little problems in most people’s lives. There is a positive side to these types of drugs as well. They often cause patients on these medications to lose weight, especially in those who are significantly overweight. Tricyclics are an earlier type antidepressant medication that is still often prescribed to patients. The term tricyclic came from the fact that three rings of atoms make up the molecules of medications in this class, and only differences in the side branches of the rings differentiate most of these drugs from one another.

Dealing With Stress

Stress is known as the emotional and physical strain that is caused by our environment. It can create either negative or positive feelings and can also be seriously damaging to your health. When stress is felt in a positive manner, it can motivate us and make us take more action. When stress is felt in a negative manner it can do the exact opposite. Negative stress can result in feelings of anger, rejection, depression and distrust. All of these feelings turned inward can lead to a variety of health problems. People have experienced insomnia, upset stomach, migraines, high blood pressure, stroke and heart disease because of negative stress. We experience stress when we have many changes in our lives such as a new job promotion, a new love relationship, the birth of your child, death of a loved one, or divorce. Work stress relief can not only increase stress in the workplace but your personal life as well. When we have to adjust to certain circumstances our lives become filled with more stress. It is how we deal with stress that really matters. Signs of mental stress can include mood swings, insomnia, fatigue, irritability, tension, and a reduced ability to concentrate. Physical signs of stress can include stomach upset, heart pounding, frequent urination, difficulty breathing, muscle tension, and sweaty palms. Many people use other destructive solutions to fight off the stress such as drug use, eating disorders, alcohol, and smoking. They are all an escape from stress and only provide a person with more pain in the end. There are a variety of different stress relief techniques and stress relief products. People can manage their own stress levels in numerous ways. Some people use the TARP method as a stress relief technique. The TARP method is made up of 4 steps. * T stands for “Tune in’: Start to notice early signs of stress. * A stands for ‘Analyze’: Start thinking about what has triggered your stress. * R stands for ‘Respond’: Begin to manage your stress and the effects of stress on you. * P stands for ‘Prevent’: Create stress relief techniques for future stress moments.
